The Highlands

The Highlands in Tahoe City is my favorite subdivision in the North Lake Tahoe area,  It is located 2 miles east of Tahoe City on the north side of Hwy 28 on Dollar Hill.  It is bordered on the north by TahoeXC cross country ski area and on the west by Burton Creek State Park, both of which are surrounded by National Forest.  This gives residents and guests of The Highlands an abundance of all year recreational activities; hiking, mountain biking, back country running, snow shoeing and cross country skiing.  For beach goers it is just a short walk to Skylandia Park or Bristlecone Beach in Lake Forest.

The Highlands is a small subdivision (only 11 streets) with large home sites.  There are a few vacation homes in The Highlands but most of the homes are owned by full time residents.  Some of the homes are older and of moderate size but many are recently built large high quality homes.  Most that are not recently built have been extensively remodeled.

The North Lake Tahoe High School and Middle School are located in the north west corner of the subdivision.
