Snowshoeing Squaw Valley

December 8, 2015 by Go Squaw Leave a Comment

Snowshoeing Squaw Valley

It’s winter, and the snow is deep. The glittering snow crunches under your snowshoes as you trek your way along the trail. It’s your second time trying the sport, and you’re falling in love with it!

You’ve rented your snowshoes both times at the Nordic Center, and you think you’ll have to buy a pair after this hike. The pace is relaxing; it’s been a fantastic way to de-stress this vacation away from your stressful work demands.

With snowfall averaging 400 inches in Lake Tahoe, it’s a certainty to have well-groomed trails through meadows and low hills below the mountains at Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows. Your friend ahead of you on the trail had the right idea moving up to the Tahoe area last year. The kids are snowshoeing around you in circles, laughing in the crisp air and teasing each other with snowballs. You’re hooked!

Squaw Valley has over 18 kilometers of trails one can snowshoe in a 400 acre area of gentle terrain, mountain views, and majestic trees. Squaw Valley | Alpine Meadows is towards the end of a five-year, $70 million upgrade, and amenities for snowshoeing have not been forgotten.

A special event is enjoying the stars in a moonlit snowshoe hike to the Chalet at Alpine Meadows. A tasty several-course dinner of Alpine-inspired delicacies is ready at the end of your hike; at only $69 per person, it’s a delightful bargain. Reservations are suggested for peak weekends and holidays.

For skiers the North Face Mountain Guides offer guided ski tours for intermediate and advanced skiers. These are highly experienced guides that have an intimate knowledge of the terrain with a few surprises along the way. North Face is a partner in this venture, and participants will receive complimentary North Face branded items. Experienced adults and teens 13+ are encouraged to make reservations.

Whether visiting or living, try snowshoeing Squaw Valley as a sport that all ages will enjoy!
